As good as it gets...around here.

I don't fancy myself a chef. I don't think I've really entered the realm of good cook yet. However, I love to cook and I love to feed my family. There must be some extra credit or perhaps an A for effort for that alone.
I grew up with a very limited view of what was tasty. If it had ketchup, then it was tasty. If it was a vegetable, with the exception of green canned peas and mashed potatoes, then it was most certainly NOT tasty. This worked for me....until I became an adult and realized that putting ketchup on all meat and refusing to eat salads because they're gross was just not acceptable. Plus it was an embarrassment.
I have to mention my husband now. He will try anything. Not only will he try anything, but he encourages me to do the same. I rarely use ketchup now. French fries are an exception. I will eat a salad...preferably spinach. I am also no longer afraid to eat out because they might not have chicken tenders or spaghetti on the menu. He's the reason I cook.
Since we've been together I have grown to love being in the kitchen, where before I was afraid to do much more than open a can or a jar. I've learned that there is a certain satisfaction to seeing the people you love smile and I've found that I can accomplish that at least once a day when we sit down to dinner. With the homemade apple butter or preserves or pickles I've made I have to ability to make friends and extended family smile too.
I'm not trying to become a chef....I never plan on going to culinary school....my biggest aspiration at this point is to feed my family well.
Most of the recipes I'll be posting are fairly easy. I have a small kitchen and an even smaller budget. I live in a small town which automatically restricts long and exotic ingredient lists.
All of the recipes I'll be posting have been tested by me and my family.
I hope you enjoy what I post.
